Windows 8: Smash or TRASH?

I have used Micro$oft products since the DOS days and I feel as though this instalment needs a lot of work in order for it to be useful. After searching I did not see a way to get rid of the "Metro" interface in favor of a classic look and feel. Additionally there has been a lot of FUD online concerning UEFI which will ship with new computers that have Windows 8 pre-installed. Namely it may (or may not) prevent users from installing or dual booting Linux unless their operating system is signed. Could this be a plot from M$ to force their product onto the consumer? Is M$ trying to KILL Linux?
